Undergraduate Thesis: The Effects of Black Carbon Surface Mass Concentration upon Violent Crime Levels in the Republic of South Africa.
This is an empirical, independently research project that I undertook for my undergraduate thesis for the Bachelor of International Economics program at the University of British Columbia.
Thesis Description: Using quarterly crime statistics and satellite-based measures of Black Carbon surface mass concentrations in South Africa, my research employed an instrumental-variable strategy leveraging wind speeds to estimate the causal effect of pollution on violent crime. The project contributed empirical evidence to a growing literature linking environmental conditions to behavioural and societal outcomes
